Promise Quartet Bio
The Promise Quartet began it's ministry in the winter of 1997 with original members Patrick Lindstrom, Eric Chastain, Boyd Franklin, John Chastain, and Billy Wayne Chastain.
During a birthday party for his grandaughter, Billy Wayne along with his brother John Chastain, decided to gather around a piano at Friendship Baptist Church and sing a little then came the idea of starting a group.
Billy Wayne asked his son, Eric, to sing the tenor and a call was made to Bill and Johns nephew, Patrick, to sing the bass. Boyd Franklin accepted the sound position and the journey began.
We needed a name and there is no greater promise in the Bible for the Believer than John 14:1-3 which speaks of the Lords return for His bride. The name "Promise Quartet" was born.
The first recording was entitled "He's coming again". Songs included "When the Lamb becomes the light", Higher ground", and original songs written by John Chastain, 'No Doubt", "Hallelujah, He saved my soul", and "Roll on Jordan". "He's coming again" was written by Billy Wayne Chastain.
In 1999, original member, Boyd Franklin , left the group to pursue other interest and the Quartet welcomed Greg Taylor as our new sound tech.
The new project "Pressing toward the mark" was released in 2002 which featured a wonderful recitation written by Greg and his wife Vickie to the music of "Amazing Grace". Also on the Album was "I Love To Call His Name", "The Greatest Story" and "God Kept His Promise".
Soon after their second recording, Original Lead singer , John Chastain, was led into another direction and left the quartet. The task was set to find another lead singer. God did what He has always done and provided Chris Patterson from Blairsville, Ga. he accepted the position and it was back to buisness.
The Promise Quartet entered "Gold City's" annual talent contest and out of 60 plus groups, placed 5th. They were given a high honor when they were named "Crowd Favorites".
The third recording, "Beautiful River" was released in 2004 and was the first with new lead singer , Chris Patterson . Songs included "Come on, Let's Go To That Land", "We Shall See Jesus", "Get Away Jordan", and "Whiter than Snow".
The Promise Quartet has sang with artists such as "The Kingsmen", Gold City", "Common Bond", "The Chuckwagon Gang", "Michael Combs" and "The Florida Boys" .
The Quartets Fourth recording, "Somthing To Shout About", was released in 2005 and contained songs like "Alpha and Omega", "I'll Fly Away", "Thank God I'm Saved", and "Field of Grace".
In 2005, longtime Baritone singer and original member, Billy Wayne Chastain left the quartet to spend more time at his home church. The search began for a replacement and in a very short time, God sent a wonderful talent in Kurtis Underwood from Blairsville , Ga. Kurtis has a fine baritone voice and the quartet was again complete.
Shortly after the arrival of Kurtis, longtime soundman Greg Taylor left the group to spend more time concentrating on his family. Travis Coleman from Blue Ridge, Ga. joined the group and is such a blessing and an unbelievable talent in running the sound .
In 2006, the quartet signed a two CD agreement with Lamp Music Group and their fifth recording will be released in January 2008. The name of the CD is "Living for the Call". We are so proud of this recording and we give God all the glory for it.
The Promise Quartets current lineup is Patrick W. Lindstrom , Eric Chastain, Travis Coleman, Kurtis Underwood and Chris Patterson.
The goal or drive of The Promise Quartet is to see the lost come to know the Lord Jesus as their Savior. It's been that way since the inception and our prayer is that each individual member will keep our focus on what God has chose us to do, to spread the word that Jesus loves you and He died for you and He will save you and also to tell you that The Promise Quartet loves you also.
